I Don't Go Looking for it, but Drama Finds Me! UPDATE!!!!

This update goes to this post about the dude that hid his gun in our yard.

Yesterday while doing yard work, I had to climb up a steep bank with clippers and Round-up to get a pesky blackberry vine that has been the bane of my existence for the last two summers. As I was looking for a hand hold so I didn't slip back down I found the gun! I didn't have a chance to take a picture of it before the police came and took it but it looked like this one. At first I thought it was a toy because the butt was chewed up like a dog had been chewing it, but then I saw the safety and knew it was real, it was really rusty and I carried it back down the hill with two fingers and my arm outstretched like it was stinky.

  5. Holy Cow, Batgirl! I wouldn't have touched it! Did you call the coppers? Was it the murder weapon? Come on, you must have some details now!

  6. Steve called the Po-Lice, Dude that showed up was a total doofer, he took the gun and we haven't heard anything. It was a robbery weapon, nobody got shot. There was a round in the chamber tho.

  7. Holy crap. I would have probably taken one look at the gun and decided that the vine was perfectly fine as it was.

  8. Good God you live in an interesting neighbourhood. I'm with Ziva. Let sleeping guns lie.

  9. Generally it's a sleepy neighborhood full of old retired folks and not too many kids. It's still strange to me, the whole story makes no sense, but that's a crack head for ya.

  10. Goodness, I'm glad you got rid of that gun. How scary!

  11. Good thing you didn't loose it and accidently shoot yourself while digging in the dirt/weeds etc.! Let's hope that was the gun discarded by that dirtbag and that there aren't any more in there.

  12. Yeah, but we had to get it and give it to the police. I was already up there, and the dumpy cop that showed up wouldn't have been able to get at it. I had a hard enough time getting up there myself.

  13. I don't think it would have shot, it was rusted together. The cop couldn't even discharge the unspent bullet from the chamber. I was hoping that it's "the one" otherwise what the heck!!

  14. You must feel better knowing it's GONE now. Yes?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes, Definately, but I really thought that the guy had come back and gotten it the next day. So in my mind it was "really gone" now I know.

  16. Dufus? You've never been to my place before have you? I didn't give you the proper welcome!! Sorry about that :) WELCOME DUFUS!!!

  17. Can I have my gun back? It's getting so that a dishonest burglar can't hide his gun in people's backyards anymore. What's this world coming to anyway?

  18. Welcome Greg!! Sorry Dude, already gave it to the cops. For some reason a rusted gun doesn't look as menacing when you're trying to rob somebody.

  19. Also, thanks for following. :)

  22. It really was creepy, we haven't heard back from the Sherif's office yet. Probably won't. Thanks for stopping by you came from Jacqui's? Welcome :)

  23. Wow! All I ever find is coke cans and cany wrappers.

  24. Be thankful for that!! I was definately surprized to find it, I thought it was long gone, or maybe not even really there, just a ploy to throw the cops off the trail.

  25. I'm really glad you got it out of your yard before your granddaughter is up to that sort of strenuous exploring!

I once wrote a story about a body that was found in the woods with a gun underneath it. The police initially suspected it was a murder, then a suicide. They reconstructed the guy's face, and a kid recognized him, so they found the family.

    Guns are scary.

  29. That sounds like a good story, thanks for paraphrasing that for me, I know how hard that is for you. ;)

  30. Who said criminals were smart?

  31. I think I would have screamed if I found my hand on a gun in that manner.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think I would've been scared to death if I found that in my yard. At least it's gone now and everyone's safe.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm not scared of guns, I just didn't want it to go off.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I probably would have been a little concerned too if I hadn't have known where it came from.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, that's pretty damn scary. I'd want to police to run a trace on it and tell me what they found. Ask them because now I'm really, really curious. Could be a really great tale. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  36. hmm, that sounds all Agatha Christishly exciting ;). Now arent you scared there's a murder weapon out there with your finger-prints on it?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I figured they'd call us back or something, but we havent heard. Typical, they never bothered to tell us if the guy was captured or not either.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nah, I was wearing gloves, and even if I wasn't the prints on the gun would be too fresh, the dirt bag's prints were buried under the rust. The cop that came to pick it up had his hands all over it, he should have worn gloves, there could have been prints on the handle.

  39. They're not going to take the initiative. You have to call them. My mom always told me that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so I've been a pain in people's asses every since. And it works.

  40. Dang, Madge! I really have to stop going to work so I can keep up with all the excitement over at your house!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I totally agree with you on that one! I hope now that's the end of it!!

  42. Since my drama is pretty few and far between, you might want to keep your job. But thanks for thinking my life is so crazy that it's quit worthy :)
