I Madge Hoosier.....

Have come to an awful realization, awful, it’s official, truly, and I’m very sorry.

I Madge Hoosier am a blog snob, I’m not sure how it happened exactly, but one day I just decided that I just can’t comment on blogs that don’t have Disqus, or something similar that allows me to comment, and for you to comment back. I try really hard to come up with some sort of a witty quip about what your blog says, then I have to go back to check or subscribe to your comments to know if you read it and commented back to me, sorry, I just can’t. Mostly I don’t care what other people say to you, I care about what I say, and what you say back. And what if I want to comment on what somebody else has said, I have to @ at them, and are they coming back to read what I said? It’s just a little cumbersome, and time consuming. If I follow you it’s because I love what you have to say, I love your insight and humor. I love your writing abilities, and everything else about you. I’ll still come over to your place and read what you write, just know that I’m lurking in the background, even if I don’t say anything.

  1. I must admit that I often forget to revisit a blog to see if they've responded to my comment. As a Disqus user I kind of expect it via email and when it doesn't come, I can easily forget I commented on a certain blog (I forget easily).  I think everyone should use Disqus, or something similar.  Does that make me a blog snob?

  3. And less than, I don't know, 300 followers.

I blog for interaction so I can be a recluse.

Besides, as CG has pointed out, the VIP section can be the most fun.

  4. I agree the VIP section can be the most fun. I like talking to everybody. I've made lots of friends on line this way.

  7. I don't really mind going back to read the reponses on the blogs that don't have the email response but I do find it disappointing if I leave a message and the blogger doesn't ever respond to their comments.  I make the exception for those that have a gazillion followers. Who would have the time to respond to everyone.

I prefer and even appreciate those that use  commenting programs that alert us of replies.

  8. I agree, I do cut slack to the bazillion follower blogger, but the rest, come into the 21st century Blog Rodgers.

  9. Amen to that, girl! I'm a blog snob too. I will leave comments on non-disqus blogs, but VERY rarely will I go back and check for a reply. I just don't have that kinda time.

  10. I'm glad it's not just me. I felt like a total beotch when I was writing that, but it's cold, hard truth.

  11. Do you know, I also want their name linked to their site.  If they take the time to comment on my stuff, I would like to return the favor.  Great!  Then I  cannot find them because they A) do not have a blog, or B) just don't have it linked to their name.  It only takes a minute and I promise I will leave fun comments for you.  Maybe 72 comments if you are cute.  Yes, I  mean on one article.  I've done it before.

  12. I'm not sure how many we left for Michael that day, but it had to be close to 72.
That was fun, we should do it again sometime when I have a whole day to do nothing but comment.

  13. I completely agree. If I have to go back to look for replies to a comment...I will either forget or just be too busy to do it.

Thankfully, I have disqus. So I don't have to miss out on comments from a pretty girl like you. (Plus, it would be really weird not to get comments from you since you're my business partner and all...)

  14. LOL Pretty girl like me. I don't think I ever told you why I said that, but I'm glad you use it so freely. And I hope that you ask people questions in that manner. How would a pretty girl like me.....?

  15. I have a love-hate relationship with Disqus and at the moment I'm hating them. Big. Time.

But I do enjoy the fact that it sends an email automatically for any response. I do have that set up on my WP blog, but if I reply to someone who replied under you, the email goes to the person under you. Because I hit the reply button under that person. Pain in the neck.

  17. Bravo!  I couldn't freakin' agree more.  Margaret over at "Nanny Goats..."
also wrote a simple tutorial on how you can hook your blog URL up to Disqus so when you do leave a comment the blog owner can then just click on your name and visit you right back.   Here's the link:  http://www.nannygoatsinpanties.com/2010/04/why-i-never-comment-on-your-blog-disqus.html

Yes, the fun of blogging is the interaction with people.   Get with the program.   Lose the loser Blogger standard comment program and get Disqus, people.   Thanks for writing this, Madge.

  18. Thanks Jayne,
I don't know why I haven't followed Margaret, I've been there, I must do that.  Right now.
Also I accidently deleted the link to your page, can you send it to me again?
